RE: HG612 New Firmware
The DR network uses Alcatel kit, unless something has changed recently In the architecture of it you'll be connected to a Alcatel ISAM (directly or off a remote line card).

RE: HG612 New Firmware
Right, I forgot about that for a moment which is silly as I'm pretty sure Origin mentioned it when we discussed the new line cards.

However, this is one of the NEW line cards as the old Alcatel ones caused the 70Mbit cap problem. So its not at all clear if its just a newer model of Alcatel card or if they had to switch to someone else to get a card that works properly at full speed (and boy does it).

RE: HG612 New Firmware
Pretty sure it'll still be Alcatel. As far as I understand, the 70Mbit 'problem' wasn't a problem as such, the cards were only supposed to do 70Mbit.

RE: HG612 New Firmware
Well I got the impression that Origin thought they had been sold as fully supporting 17a, but it could equally have bean that Digital Region hadn't considered how quickly the service speed would be cranked up in order to compete with BT. Either way it was a bit silly, as they should have been offering to sell 100Mbit to businesses from the start.

It does seem odd though why line cards capable of 17a would have a cap at all. Even if DR never thought they would be rolling out 17a on the current cards you would think 17a cards would be fully compliant. Plus, how come Origin got reports of full speed during the Max trial if the cards were all capped?

Makes you wonder if some cards could handle the full speed and others couldn't? I guess we will never know the full details as its all a bit embarrassing for DR really.

RE: HG612 New Firmware
For whatever reason Alcatel do/did produce VDSL2 kit that supports 17a but can only shift 70Mbit - see the callout boxes in http://www.comptek.ru/alcatel/pdf/7354_.pdf for an example (it's their own literature). That's not to say that's the exact kit DR are/were using - I'm not 100% sure.
