i believe you should have the master socket plugged into the cell pipe, the cell pipe plugged into the WAN port of the new router and the router needs to be set to ethernet/wan mode. you will need to type in your ppoe details into the new router too.

@alexatkin

Thanks!. I'll have to give this firmware a try once I sort out this troublesome Win8 issue lol.

Has anyone got round to trying this new firmware out. From what I'm reading its the same layout and look as the normal Asus router page. As well as that, Am I daft or can anyone else see no connection uptime on this router for the actual connection and not just how long its been powered up

@john1

Is the router any better of improvement for you?

Regarding the option to add your own name in the DHCP reservation for client devices, this is reply I got back

Quote:Thank you for your feedback. But our firmware has no this function now. We will add this function in the near future.

I mentioned that in my earlier post regarding the connection time and have emailed the following to ASUS regarding this as well, hopefully will get reply within next 48 hours

Code:
For PPPoE connections I have noticed the device does not actually provide information on how long you have been connected to your ISP but instead only the uptime of the device

ie on my dlink it would show the following

Connection Type :     PPPoE
Cable Status :      Connected
Network Status :      Connected
Connection Up Time :      72 days 21 hours 10 minutes

please can we get similar added to the ASUS firmware as it is useful when diagnosing connection issues

The only way to see it is via checking the System Log, but it only keeps the last 1024 entries. Luckily I have mine also sent to a Syslog Server so can backtrack for when it last connected

RE: If you're on the lookout for a new router
That does seem odd as on what planet would system uptime have any relation to Connection Up Time, other than the fact the connection can't have been up longer than the system. Wink

I don't think you are going to notice much on the Ethernet side of things tbh unless you are doing lots of high def streaming etc.

@mirdragon @alexatkin

Has all these wonderful features but yet doesn't have 2 basic things that even ISP routers do lol!
...I wanna know why its called Dark Knight haha

It's the best router I've ever owned but saying that, When I spend over £100 on a router, I expect it to be top notch!.

totally agree with you on that regarding it to be top notch for the price, currently my dlink surpasses with a lot of options you don't get on this router
