RE: No Landline Broadband Service
Eventually we won't need a landline for the broadband service, we shouldn't need one now, but its BT's main money earner isn't it and they won't let it go down without a fight you can bet.

RE: No Landline Broadband Service
Well, it's also becoming an ISP revenue generator, or at the very least something that they provide as a bundle to try and keep existing customers.

RE: No Landline Broadband Service
I wouldn't mind the line rental so much if I didn't get all the annoying sales and marketing calls on it.

If it funds the way for homes to go FTTP or some form, nobody will be complaining then...works both ways I guess.

RE: No Landline Broadband Service
Indeed.

Considering how much we have paid in line rental over the years they should be rolling out FTTP for free, then I wouldn't MIND paying £15/month for line rental.

As for 4G, I just can't see it being a practical replacement for land line broadband. The contention ratio on 4G is going to be really really high compared to land line broadband, and the latency is about six times higher too not accounting for jitter which is more variable with mobile broadband. Even on my local O2 mast which is practically outside my window, I get 50Mbit during off peak but it can slow right down during peak hours which will also mean jitter. That on an ISP that I can't imagine getting THAT much heavy use as their monthly usage quotas are so low.
