Digital Region closing
Hi there, as we all are aware Digital Region is finally shutting down on the 14 Th Aug this year-incidentally I didn't find this out until yesterday.
I'm currently with Origin BB, and had been told that they will continue to operate-yippe, however I now know that whilst Origin will continue I will be migrated back to copper connection instead off FTTC to copper.
For me that likes having a supercar for 2 years and then having to swap it for a Tricycle.
I looked last night on the BT Openreach to see if/when my exchange would be fibre enabled and it indicated that Hatfield Woodhouse is now excepting orders, 'click here' for home or business. This takes you to list of 19 ISP's I assume work out of this exchange.
Upon entering my details on ALL ISP's website I was offered 1 meg connection as I am currently unable to get fibre-which is clearly wrong .

So for me and my neighbours technology has gone back 15 years-no more on demand service, youtube, iMessage or facetime, skype or anything that requires a BB connection.
Prior to Origin I had Talktalk, which whilst the service was good-no issues with telecoms the BB was somewhat to be desired- on a good day 1.2meg but usually aroung the 0.2 to 0.7meg speeds.

Are they any others who like myself who come mid July and definitely by 14 Aug are going to find that they have NO really usable Broadband.
Does anyone know of how I can get back on FTTC other than moving home(not an option).

Regards

Hornetman

RE: Digital Region closing
Was this a postcode search or a line search? It sounds like your exchange is enabled for FTTC but either you have no cabinet (you're wired directly to the exchange) or your cabinet is not enabled.

I would call up two or three and enquire what the status of your line is given your exchange is enabled.

Ultimately it might be that no FTTC options beside DR exist; which is the case for much of the Sheffield, Attercliffe and Meadowhall exchange areas (except where Virgin have their cables). I know, I'm in this boat. Try as you might, if there is no FTTC availability you can't magically create it.

    Hi thanks for that.
It would seem that the exchange is fibre enabled but my cabinet as BT is not, but typically the DR cabinet is 2mts away.
Ive done a postcode check and a telephone check:

Hi, yes it would seem I've exhausted my options. Pity as a tax payer I contribute to this scheme and as end user get dumped on.

RE: Digital Region closing
Since Origin are going to be a reseller of BT ADSL and fibre, then if Origin can't provide you fibre then nobody can. Out of interest how did you find out? Nobody on this forum has owned up to being contacted by Origin yet about the closure, although some have contacted them to find out further information.

RE: Digital Region closing
I had a phone call from Origin last night. First contact I've had from them.
"you may have heard DRL are closing?" - yeah like mid August last year, where have you guys been hiding?

anyway deal is I move from my 24/2 on DRL to 40/2 on BT infrastructure at same price.

Except they want me to move line rental to Origin AND sign a new 12 month contract.

Told them I'm happy to stay with them but no to moving line rental and a total no to a new contract - wait to see their response.

If no then "Plusnet, I'm coming back!!"
