LittleBigOne Announces 100mb Variant
Looks like @LittleBigOne is now getting on the act with the 100mb speeds.

Now something bothers me with this shot below. I know my line cannot get those speeds as quoted because the GEA FTTC product of BT pretty much puts me at 47mb with 11mb upload on a 17a profile because I have Aluminium pairs...which begs the question...Are they guessing speeds?

I would like to know how they are calculating estimates speeds out here.

Considering the page asks you to enter a postcode, then gives a result almost immediately, it doesn't take much thought to realise it's probably a simple line of site calculation, or at best something that follows roads. And postcodes aren't exactly a single point either.

I highly doubt it actually goes and tests your actual line in real time then tells you what it found.

It's just an estimate.

@ocdcodemonkey

Welcome to the forum!.

Whilst I fully appreciate its an estimate as it says, there is no way it can be 50mb out lol.

I don't have any clue what API they use from Digital Region to get ideas of throughput, but it has to link to Openreach somehow to look at what BT PCP you are connected to. At the same time, it will provide you a rough idea of how far away you are from the PCP (cab) and a reasonable estimate on fibre generally within about 5mb.

Hence why I'm baffled.

I've emailed @LittleBigOne and I'm currently awaiting a response from them.

RE: LittleBigOne Announces 100mb Variant
If I put my postcode in it doesn't give a response for Ultrafast just the standard super fast that it always has so I'm guessing this means its isn't available on all lines. I'm having enough problems with super fast that isn't being dealt with so I'm not that bothered.

Interestingly my parents postcode which is 500 Metres away does get the option for ultrafast.

I may be connected to a cabinet 450m away, but there is another cabinet at the end of my road which only a couple of houses (on my road) are connected to. I'm guessing it is using the nearer cabinet for the estimate. If I use a postcode that is close to me, but definitely connected to the other cabinet I get estimates more like 50-60Mb.

What are you currently getting out of interest?
