After looking at a few various bits on the internet relating to Digital Region and the ISP’s I thought I’d have a look at the wind up operations of RiPWiRE.

I went on companies’ house to have a look at them as they are/were a limited company. To my amazement it appears that RiPWiRE are still showing as an active company and there is no mention of them going into administration or any administrators for the business been appointed.

It seems a little strange as most companies would be showing more or less straight away as in liquidation or administrators been appointed and limited companies registered office details changing to reflect this, however for RiPWiRE this isn’t the case.

I wonder if they are going to change their company name and start trading again. Or are they going to go into some other area of business under a different name? Its certainly raised my suspicions and I’d love to know what there up too!

In an effort to keep everyone updated and to stop repeated calls (to Digital Region and ISP's) and posts being made, I have been liaising with Origin and Digital Region to get the latest updates in what's happening with the RIPWiRE situation on behalf of all its users.

From Origin's communications with Digital Region today, they have been advised that any RIPWiRE customer wanting to immediately migrate to Origin or another ISP on the network, they will have to pay a fee of £50. This is because of the legal stuff going off in the background and that migrations still have to follow the normal process. I have queried this cost and it's due to the admin paperwork and other manual work needed at Digital Regions side to make the change happen. I've asked Origin if they would be prepared to subsidise the cost of this but the £50 fee cannot be totally absorbed and they already contribute something towards it (something around £25). I have suggested some ideas how to make this a little less harsh on the pocket and Origin will take it under consideration (Can't tell you what it is, sorry!). This is Origins stance on the matter although LittleBigOne, Ask4 & UniTel (Formerly Lyndos) may differ. If they have any offers they would like to put there, by all means bring them forward in a respectable manner.

I've asked Origin what happens in respect to the current contract agreement we have with RiPWiRE, whether we migrate over to the new provider in 30 day rolling contracts or it's a new 12/18 month. This has not been clarified as of yet.
Nothing has currently been decided yet from today's meeting with the ISP's (unless something has happened late this evening) and it make take some time yet before full details are ironed out especially when there is so much to discuss (direct debit payments, etc). As soon as I get any communication, I'll let everyone know.

In the meantime, I understand that Digital Region themselves will offer RiPWiRE users technical support on connection issues for the time being. This is offered during office hours. Please do not contact alternate ISP's for connectivity assistance.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask and I will try to answer them as best I can. If I can't answer it, I'll point them to the relevant direction.

I can't see ISP's bidding to take RiPWiRE's customers..Unless they offer enticing deals?

I agree the initial setup fee's may be applied when first joining up and do not have a problem with that, but if it doesn't require an engineer to physically do the migration when swapping on the DR network then this fee should be reduced (i'm not saying it should be abolished). Also as the NOC can change configuration on the Cellpipe remotely I can't see why they can't migrate users by making a simple change (as previously they were going to send out replacement modems, but not sure if this is still the case)
In regards to the usage I was informed that my usage was being spread about to other ISP's on the network as being over 250GB a month even though was told by Ripwire my usage was nowhere near that figure. So I don't know where DR were getting this info from (I have been told there are heavy users on the same DSLAM as me), and then on my own monitoring i've never reached above 100GB and that was when redownloading setup files for rift and lotro as well as using steam, updating xbox and downloading demos on that, streaming content to my tv as well as other computers and downloading new linux iso's. On many occassions it has been less than 60GB for combined up/down. In regards to being regulated by Ofcom as of December 2011 I was informed by Ripwire that the Ofcom regulations do not apply to them. I will say once they sort out their customer service, support and provide relevant feedback to the customers they will do extremely well as when the service works their are no problems. It is just their customer service, support and attitude towards myself in their emails to me, which has given rise to my request to leave them as a service provider and not recommend them to anyone else in the future.

After leaving several messages with receptionists and waiting over 48 hours for a response, I managed to get through to someone at Ripwire who was able to deal with billing issues. They claimed that their third-party accounts people had refused my first installation payment so had taken payment again (!). If I wanted to apply for a refund, I would have to provide a bank statement proving that the first installation payment had left my account. Needless to say, I've double-checked things at my end and they definitely got paid in July 2011, without any subsequent refunds or returns being made.

Good evening,
We have spoken to ripwire about their uptp 24Mbs residential service. i agreed to sign up and passed on the MAC key 2/3 weeks ago, i also gave them my details to set up the direct debit etc.
The first week passed and i heard nothing, the second came and still nothing. So, i rang Ripwire to see what was going on and i was informed that i woud receive a manual 3 days before the switch and my modem and kit 1 day before the switch from out previous provider. I thought ok i will wait another week for the kit to arrive. It ran into another week and still nothing so i rang them again. 3 times i have rang now only to get told that someone will call me back that day.
I don't get a call back, ever. Whats going on? are you not bothered about me as a customer? are you even setting us up for your service?

Well I finally got it on Tuesday. Had some issues on the way though. Well mostly that it took Open reach 40 days before they decided I required my line changing over, so I suppose this isnt an issue with Ripwire?
The other issue with my connection was that the DSL light was on but for the life of me I couldnt get the damn internet to dial up... Now I work in IT networking so i know some stuff like so I knew I was doing nothing wrong. Put a ticket in at 6pm and got a call at 6:30, so that was good! Unfortunately thinking that it would be ages before I got anything from them I had gone out shopping in a mood. So anyway they rang back at 7:30 when I was in, we went through all of the setup several times and tried a few things. Nothing worked. The router and computer both just timed out on trying to connect. Eventually he realised that he had no Email confirming the connection which he found strange considering it all looked right from both of our ends. So he rang Digital region (I guess) and they said that they needed 20 mins to finish it all off. So he rang back after 20 mins and we tried again, still nothing. So he rang Digital region again and they said to try now. Turned all the kit off and back on and WOO HOO it worked. So I guess thats a lesson for us all.
In 3 days I have had one drop out (that I know of) on the same day we connected which I suppose as the line levels off or whatever will be normal. Last test I did on the PC returned 24ms to London with 35 down and 1 up. 35 Down im fairly happy with but 1 up im not sure is right. Im hoping that it will get better as the line gets sorted?

Hello ive been taking a interest in DR over the last month or so and is thinking of joining Ripwire on there fiIbre boradband service. However having read a few reviews on other forums and websites i have a few concerns and questions to make my mind up.

At the moment im on adsl service with Zen Internet "very good isp" i currently get around 7 meg download. I live in dunscoft and is not that far from the local exhange there "few streets away".

Having read a few peoples personal accounts on there expericence so far with ripwire im concerned about there customer service"if something goes wrong"it seems that quite a few people are having problems with disconnects and lack of customer service to get there problems solved.

Also i play alot of online gaming and like to browse the web and use the torrents now and then. Another concern ive got is there any sort of traffic shaping with ripwire. "Zen dont use traffic shaping".

Also Zen is a 1 month contact as with ripwire its a 18 month contact im converned if im having loads of problems im stuck in an 18 contact but with Zen its a 1 month contact and they have very good customer service.

I'm sure some seasoned folk on the Digital Region network will know about the RAS disconnections (disconnections between router and Ripwire/DR network log in wise). I'm just curious if anyone is noticing the issue is having a knock on effect with Sky Player?.

Sky player basically goes off IP address of your connection to register your computer as a viewing device. I've noticed over recent weeks my computer is constantly registering as a new device again.

My own conducted research with Digital Region shows its not something that shows up on their end and points towards the ISP's RAS (Ripwire's server). Anyone else use Sky Player?, anyone else have the same issue?

Hello all,Just signed up for ripwire in oxspring village, heretofore the recipient of massive 1-2Mb ADSL internet speeds, and am awaiting connection on tuesday.
Have just been reading all of the problems people have had, and I'm slightly apprehensive that I'm going to be weeks sorting out setup problems and am going to regret ditching my BT trouble-free, albeit slow, ADSL.
I have major work pressures in the month ahead, and could do without being cut off from the inter-web......
My questions to you ripwire veterans are:
1). The Cellpipe modem that has arrived has its wifi and LAN 2,3,4 ports disabled by the supplier apparently. Any idea why? Some govt THALES contract thing?
2). Can I not just go into configuration settings and enable all of that, or it soldering of wires required, or is there some known issue with the cellpipe kit's wifi and is the best idea to just go and buy a cable wireless router to connect to the modem?
3). Does the VDSL modem have to be connected to the BT master socket, or can it be connected to any socket in the house? As with most people, my master socket is down near the skirting in the hall, and my office is a bedroom upstairs which I've sent an extension to.
4). I presume ADSL and VDSL filters are different, and I'll need new VDSL filters for my sky boxes, etc?
5). Does everyone suffer the disconnection with phonecalls thing, or is that a known issue with a straightforward fix now?
6). I still have time to cancel and wait till BT infinity comes next year - would you still recommend ripwire after your problems?
Many thanks for any answers.
