My contract with LBO/Chess expires on the 13th of May 2014. With the closure date set of 2 days later I guess this is a good thing.

So I am wondering what people think is the best method to switch would be?

Currently I am thinking about this...

I live in Bolton upon Dearne. Apparently the Goldthorpe exchange will be BT Infinity enabled sometime soon. Feb 2014-March 2014 estimate, but even if it is later, it looks like it 'will' at least happen this year. Normally my ADSL2+ speed would be about 4.5/5Mbit down. I don't mind this hit knowing that FTTC will be coming soon.

Anyway, should I even bother trying to 'switch' ISP? I'm thinking I should just let this line expire and give the 30 days notice in April. Then set up a new line order with BT in April. Since they offer free new line installations according to their website.

Plus if there is any downtime I have a mobile hotspot.

Seems the most hassle free? Or does anyone see any problem with this that I don't?

Cheers.

Our line has been blocked since 4pm yesterday (Friday) and 18 hours later we still cannot make or receive calls! Without our phoneline we have lost a phenomenal amount of business as the weekend is the busiest for us. DamTel initially told us it is a fault and they are working on it but it's evident the line is blocked/barred and they now I have been trying to call them for the past 12 hours but do not answer the phone. We now have a line that is in limbo. I fear the company might even have gone bust so no idea what will happen with our line. Is anyone else in the same position? Can anyone shine any light on this situation? What happens to a phone line when a telecoms provider goes under? Please can anyone help, I am so stressed out at the moment.

Could anyone clarify for me whether new connections to the digital region fibre network are blocked as a result of company policy / uncertainty or Chess and other providers are actually blocked from making connections by DR?

My situation is that I moved into a new house the day after DR announced its closure (16th August)

This means I am now, under contract, paying for a fibre service at my old address which Chess now refuse to move to my new address.

Apparently the only option I have is to pay a cancellation fee to Chess to get out of my contract as they can offer an alternative solution, but this alternative is obviously not going to be the fibre connection which I am paying a premium for.
So much for the "don't worry, your service wont be affected"

Since then I have read about the closure of the network and potential consequences (for example, switching to ISPs on alternative networks, possible using other technologies and therefore no where near the speed I would have got on the DR network). Now I appear to have signed up for Chess over the phone for a long term contract. I am worried that I am now going to be tied to them for the remaining period of this contract even if they will move me over to a none FTTC network.
I have tried to e-mail them on multiple addresses asking them about this and I have had no reply. I have not had any paperwork through the post (I understand this is how they operate anyway)

This is mainly for LittleBigOne customers if anything.

I've had a very brief chat with Chess Telecom who hope to get a rep on here as soon as possible to put everyones mind at ease

Further to that, Chess Telecom are coordinating with LittleBigOne for Q&A. In the meantime, If anyone would like any reasonable questions/concerns to be put forward, reply to this thread and I'll highlight it to their attention

Thanks all.
I'm sorry it doesn't answer all questions but as I say, I had to get it fired off to them before 2PM Thurs. I have emailed Chess with some further questions in relation to whats been mentioned on here (ie TV) and I hope to have a response.
Clearly I am not going to pay to upgrade, is there any wonder that DR is struggling with hair brained policies such as this ?

Hi can some one help please

When I first got LBO I had a few teething problems but they got me on 34/4 and was very stable.

After a few months the speed got worse and worse till it dropped to 10meg they sorted this out again but only got to 25meg they claimed it was impossible even though I had 34 for a good few months, at the moment with the zyxel im getting just short of 20/4

I borrowed an Openreach modem off my friend @ash45 to check the status page and got a surprise the speed has dropped again down 11meg and attainable is only saying 18meg which kinda coincides with the zyxel sync but as said I did have 34 for months so I thought the OR modem would of given an attainable of round about that ive attached a few print screens of both modems can anyone help me

Thanks Harry

Hi All, after a recommendation from a family member, and totally fed up with talk talk service and customer care. I thought I'd give LBO a try.

Well the installation date of Thursday (yesterday) came, was aware an engineer may or may not turn up between 8am -1pm, none did. So i wired up the router and connected it all up. Green constant DSL light, red internet light. Wireless network around the 3 pc's i have all worked fine.

Contacted LBO tech, the guy sounded un-interested in my problem and just said it's a BT issue and I'll call you back. 2 hours later no call, so i rang them got the same guy who said he'd chase it up. Again another 2 hour wait so again i called. Same thing no real apology or trying to figure what the problem was, just I'll get back to you.

In the end i called the sales team and hats off the the guy i spoke to Ryan, he was apologetic and really helpful called me back twice before the agreed 1hour callback to reset router. This didn't resolve the issue and was told this was a sync problem. But how a brand new router can be the problem is beyond me. And why the tech guy didn't go through these checks is also beyond me.

Now I'm awaiting a new router, not turned up today so hopeful by sat or Monday. As a GM on a popular MMORPG I'll not be working this weekend.

Thanks LBO, so far I'm not impressed by their customer service of tech support.

I wondered if anyone can offer any advice on the LBO phone features? I cant find any instructions on the LBO website for voicemail etc.

Also, when dialling 1471, the message says number is not known, although if I look in the router settings, the number is listed within.

Is this their own VOIP service or are they using a 3rd party where perhaps I could get some guidance from?

Hi - I had my install of LBO on Thursday. Prior to the install I was with Sky for BB and phone. LBO told me when I signed up that they could not port over Sky numbers and that I would need a new line and new telephone number. Open zone installed the new line on Thursday so I plugged up the new router and phone, emailed LBO my router MAC and my phone was up and running in less than an hour.

Initially I was getting a lot of line drop so again I emailed LBO and asked them to look at the issue, they were very prompt and sorted out the line drop.

I now have 37mb broadband as opposed to the 6mb I received from Sky.

I guess the point in this post was really just to say that though there were issues initially it was all sorted with the minimum of fuss.

Well done LBO.

Forgot to say, the Christmas offer of free installation, free phone line and number meant I had nothing to pay up front. The VOIP phone is crystal clear too.
