Confirmed, Origin have some strange performance issues
I have now been with Origin for a year since they moved from Digital Region to BT and have had fluctuating performance the whole time.
I have put up with it because they offered a really good deal to stay, but that runs out the end of this month so I have gotten connected to Zen. As Origin was on a second line they provided (as my main line had tags problems at the time) I have been able to test both. Firstly and immediately obvious, Zen has 1-3ms lower latency. This varies based on the PPP session as presumably Zen being a much bigger ISP have several virtual circuits, whereas Origin probably just have the one route over their LLU network. I will dismiss the fact it has fewer hops as the latency of the first one clearly indicates that it is being tunneled over links where its being routed on Origin. Quote:Tracing route to google-public-dns-a.google.com [8.8.8.8] Quote:Tracing route to google-public-dns-a.google.com [8.8.8.8] Speed wise, this is the average speed I have been getting on Origin: Immediately on Zen however I get: Just because it HAD to be done, here are a couple of load-balancing tests with both connections used. It does not seem to consistently apply for uploads for some reason. |
